Object Detail
Brief Description
Robert Ingpen's watercolour image of England batsman, Colin Cowdrey (1932 - 2000). The artist's image number - 104 - and subject's name and country, are handwritten below the design, with pencilled years '1954-75'. A sheet of tracing paper, with grid lines and references, folds over the artwork which is signed and dated by the artist. The image is included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the MCG. In 114 Tests, Cowdrey scored 7624 runs - including 22 centuries (three at the MCG) and 38 half-centuries - at an average of 44.06. In 1992 he was knighted for his services to cricket, and elevated to the peerage in 1997.
