Object Detail
Brief Description
Original Robert Ingpen watercolour depicting Australian Test cricketer, Stan McCabe (1910-1968). The artist's image number - 66 - and subject's name and country are handwritten below the design, with a pencilled year '1935'. A sheet of tracing paper, with grid lines and references, folds over the artwork which is signed and dated by the artist. The image is included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the MCG. In 39 Tests (1930-1938), McCabe scored 2748 runs - including six centuries, 13 half-centuries, and a highest score of 232 - at an average of 48.21, captured 36 wickets at 42.86, and took 41 catches. During the 'Bodyline series' (1932/33), he scored a 187 not out in Sydney by hooking Larwood's fastest deliveries to the boundary. In 2002, McCabe was inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame.
