Object Detail

Brief Description
Original Robert Ingpen watercolour depicting Australian Rules footballer, Haydn William Bunton Snr (1911-1955). The artist's image number - 63 - and subject's name and VFL club are handwritten below the design. A sheet of tracing paper, with grid lines and references, folds over the artwork which is signed and dated by the artist. The image is included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the MCG. In an extraordinary career, Bunton played 119 games and kicked 207 goals for Fitzroy Football Club (1931-37, and 1942), winning three Brownlow Medals - two in his first two seasons of 1931-32, and 1935 ( runner-up in 1934), and three Sandover Medals (1938-39 and 1941) when he played for Subiaco in Perth. After WWII, he played two games with Port Adelaide (1945), umpired for a period, and later coached North Adelaide (1947-48).
