Brief Description
Original Robert Ingpen watercolour depicting Australian wicketkeeper, William Albert Stanley "Bert" Oldfield (1894-1976), and England batsman and medium-fast bowler, Walter Reginald "Wally" Hammond (1903-1965). The artist's image numbers - 49 and 50 - and subject's names and country, are handwritten below the design, with a pencilled date '1928'. A sheet of tracing paper, with grid lines and references, folds over the artwork which is signed and dated by the artist. The image is included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the MCG. Oldfield played 54 Tests for Australia, assisting in 130 dismissals (78 catches & 52 stumpings). Hammond scored 7249 runs at an average of 58.45, captured 83 wickets, and took 110 catches.
