Object Detail
Brief Description
Robert Ingpen's original design of an image of Soviet runner, Vladimir Kuts (1927-1975), winning the gold medal ahead of Englishman, Gordon Pirie, in the 5000m at the Melbourne Olympic Games. The artist's original image number - 100 - and subject's names and countries, are handwritten below the design. A sheet of tracing paper, with grid lines and references, folds over the artwork which is signed and dated by the artist. The image is included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the MCG. Kuts also won the 10,000m and was described by The Argus as 'The Man of the Games'.
