Object Detail

Brief Description
Robert Ingpen's original design of an image of Australian Rules footballer, John Coleman (1928 - 1973). The artist's original image number - 89 - and subject's name and club, are handwritten below the design, with the names of Geelong players, Bruce Morrison and Bernie Smith, depicted in the image with Coleman. A sheet of tracing paper, with grid lines and references, folds over the artwork which is signed and dated by the artist. Coleman played 98 games and kicked 537 goals for Essendon Football Club at the extraordinary average of 5.48 goals per game. His career was cut short by injury. The Coleman Medal is awarded to the leading goalkicker at the end of the home-and-away season.
