Object Detail

Brief Description
Robert Ingpen's original design of an image of England batsman, Derek Randall, and Australian wicket-keeper, Rod Marsh. The artist's original image number - 136 - and names of the subjects, their country and the event, are handwritten below the design. A sheet of tracing paper, with grid lines and references, folds over the artwork which is signed and dated by the artist. The image is included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the MCG. In March 1977, Randall scored 174 in England's 2nd Innings of the Melbourne Centenary Test at the MCG, and was awarded Man of the Match. Marsh compiled 110 not out in the same match - the first time an Australian wicket-keeper had scored a Test century. In 2005, Marsh was inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame.
