Object Detail

Brief Description
Robert Ingpen's original design of an image of Australian batsman, Ian Chappell. The artist's original image number - 127 - and name of the subject and country are handwritten below the design. A sheet of tracing paper, with grid references, folds over the artwork which is signed and dated by the artist. The image is included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the MCG. In 75 Tests (1964-80), Chappell scored 5,345 runs - including 14 centuries - at an average of 42.42. In 30 Tests as captain, he lost only five. In 2003, Chappell was inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame.
