Object Detail
Brief Description
Robert Ingpen's depiction of two great Australian Rules ruckmen: John Nicholls and Graham 'Polly' Farmer. The artist's original image numbers - 116 and 117 - and notes are handwritten below the design. A sheet of tracing paper, with grid lines and references, folds over the artwork. The image is included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the MCG. Nicholls played 328 games (then a league record) and kicked 307 goals for the Carlton Football Club - and won the club's Best & Fairest award five times - between 1957 and 1974. Farmer won three Sandover Medals and seven Best & Fairest awards at East Perth, before joining Geelong FC in 1962. He played 101 games and kicked 65 goals for the Cats - and won two more Best & Fairest awards - before retiring in 1967.
