Brief Description
Photograph of the start of a women's running event. This event was part of a special athletics meeting to celebrate the Australian tour of Fanny Blankers-Koen, held at Leederville Oval on 29 Feb 1949. Six athletes are leaving starting blocks, and an official stands in the background. Athletes include, Shirley Strickland (third from left); Verna Johnston (third from right); and Fanny Blankers-Koen (far right). The photo has been inscribed with the numeral '1' on the bottom right corner. The reverse side is stamped, printed inscription includes text, "ART PHOTO ENGRAVERS ... PERTH".
