Brief Description
Drawing, coloured ink on off-white paper, of a man in beige pants, white shirt, top hat and and black bow-tie. He poses with a bat in front of a wicket, in a very upright batting stance. In the background is a wall, with a house and trees behind it. Printed underneath image is text, "MARTINGELL. / born 20th August 1818 at Nutfield in Surrey.". Printed underneath image, l.l. "John C. Anderson del et hth."; and l.r. "Printed by Hullmandel & Walton". Printed centre under title, "London Publifhed by John Corbet Anderson, 40 Church Road, De Beauvoir Square Kingsland July 8th 1850 and by Mr. R. Dark Lord's Ground". Two pieces of archival paper tape on the upper edge.
