Robert Ingpen's watercolour image of Australian Rules footballer, William Caldwell "Bill" McClelland (1875 -1957). The artist's image number - 36 - and subject's name and club are handwritten below the design, with a pencilled date '1903'. A sheet of tracing paper, with grid lines and references, folds over the artwork which is signed and dated by the artist. The image is included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the MCG. McClelland played 75 games for the Melbourne Football Club (1898-1904), was chairman of the club (1912-26), president of the Victorian Football League (1926-55), and president of the MCC (1944-58). The McClelland Trophy is presented to the AFL team finishing first at the end of the home-and-away season.
