Brief Description
Gold-rimmed, white saucer with brown and green coloured pictorial designs. Around the edge of the saucer is a laurel wreath, incorporating images of athletes performing various Olympic sports. At the top of the wreath is an image of a flaming Olympic torch with the date '1956', in front of the Olympic rings emblem. Below the torch, in the bowl of the saucer, is the image of a torch bearer. He is situated in front of a map of Australia, with the location of Melbourne flagged. At the bearer's feet is a ribbon with the Olympic motto: 'CITIUS ALTIUS FORTIUS'. Inscription around the top of the image reads: 'OLYMPIC GAMES MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA NOV 1956'. Manufacturer's details on the underside of the bowl.
