Object Detail

Brief Description
A white paper serviette folded into four. Around the edge of the serviette are 28 shields featuring the flags of nations competing in the Games - 7 shields across each edge. Each of these four groups of flag shields are flanked in each corner by a shield with the Australian flag - two with the Red Ensign, two with the Blue Ensign. At the centre of the serviette are four impressions of the same design, facing outwards towards each corner. The design is of the 1956 Melbourne Olympics logo, of a flaming torch planted in the location of Melbourne on a map of Australia. The accompanying inscription reads: 'Souvenir/OLYMPIC GAMES/MELBOURNE/1956'.
