Brief Description
A metal and enamel badge, with a silk ribbon attached to base. The badge features the logo of the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, comprising of the Olympic rings above a flaming torch protruding from the location of Melbourne on a map of Australia. Around it is the inscription: 'OLYMPIC GAMES/MELBOURNE 1956'. The inscription on the attached ribbon reads: 'ROWING/COURSE/MANAGER'. The number '870' features on the back of the badge, as well as the manufacturer's details. This badge was issued to N.W. Cairnes, who was the Honorary Secretary of the Australian Amateur Rowing Council's Olympic Rowing Committee, acting as Rowing Course Manager during the Games.
