Object Detail

Brief Description
Postcard of a poster, unused. A full-colour facsimile of the second of four 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games posters, designed by Yusaku Kamekura, with Osamu Hayasaki and Jo Murakoshi. This work incorporated the use of state-of-the-art colour photogravure, whilst also employing the emblem and logo for the Tokyo Games, designed by Kamekura, across the bottom. This photogravure image features male athletes bounding out from a standing start. These men were actually American soldiers stationed at Tachikawa Airbase, in Japan, and amateur Japanese runners. The image was captures during one night in February 1962, at the National Stadium.
