Object Detail

Brief Description
A postcard of a poster. A minimalistic design featuring, upon a plain cream field, a dynamic interpretation of the olympic rings emblem. The ripples trailing each ring gives the feel of each ring speedily coming together in unison. This symbolises the intention of "inviting" athletes from all nations on the five continents to come together at the Montreal Games. Appropriately, this design is called "The Invitation". In the upper left corner is the Montreal Games emblem. Across the top is the logotype: 'Montreal 1976'. Poster was designed by Ernst Roch and Rolf Harder. It was reproduced as a postcard by the I.O.C. in 1985.
