Brief Description
A postcard of a poster. On a blue field, there is a grey oblique disc, representing an ice skating rink, topped by a white pyramid representing a snowy mountain, topped by the 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympics emblem, which was designed by Kazumasa Nagai. The emblem is contained within a white rectangle, and is comprised of four components. From top to bottom: A red circle, symbolising the Rising Sun of Japan; a stylised snowflake on a purple field, derived from the symbol of an ancient Japanese family, but also representing winter; the olympic rings; and, the logotype. The logotype reads: 'SAPPORO'72'. Immediately below, is the inscription: 'XI OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES'. Poster was designed by Takashi Kono. It was reproduced as a postcard by the I.O.C. in 1985.
