Object Detail

Brief Description
Gold pocket watch, awarded to the players of the Eaglehawk Football Club, part of the Bendigo Football League, for scoring the most goals by a football team in Victoria in the year 1894. This particular watch was awarded to Francis Esposito. The watch is round with intricate patterns on both exterior faces, and the initials 'EV' on the front (clock face side). There are two hinges at the bottom which allow the faces to open and reveal the clock face, and the inscription of the recipient on the other side. The clock face is white with black roman numerals and a black hour hand, there are no other hands. There is a seconds clock face inset at the VI. The maker's mark 'A.W.Co. Waltham' is at the top of the face. Engraved onto the back of one of the gold faces is the serial number A9613, and a 'K18' stamp indicating the casing is made from 18 carat gold. There is a winder and chain ring at the top.
