Brief Description
A bronze low-relief sculpture mounted on a marble back, honouring champion Victorian Olympians. Along the left and bottom of the work is a memorial to Wilfrid Hughes. Beneath a side-profile relief portrait of Hughes is the inscription: "TO PERPETUATE THE MEMORY OF/WILFRID KENT HUGHES/K.B.E.,M.V.O.,M.C.,E.D.,M.P./1895-1970/OLYMPIAN,SCHOLAR,SOLDIER,/STATESMAN,ADMINISTRATOR./A TRIBUTE OF THE VICTORIAN OLYMPIC COUNCIL." . At the top right are a number of small bronze plaques featuring the names of the most outstanding Victorian athletes who performed in each Olympic Games since 1952. The plaques are mounted beneath the mounted plaque bearing the inscription: "VICTORIAN OLYMPIANS ROLL OF HONOUR.". Beneath the plaques of athletes, is an image of six male athletes in a classical style. Above the portrait of Hughes is the artists name: "ANDOR MESZAROS 1971".
