Object Detail

Brief Description
A black and white photo postcard of the Australian Olympic team, marching during the Opening Ceremony of the 1920 Antwerp Olympic Games, 15 August 1920. Inscription across lower left, in French, reads, "7E OLYMPIADE - ANVERS 1920./ DEFILE DES ATHLETES". At the centre of the Australian team is Lily Beaurepaire, the only female in the team, and representative in the women's swimming and diving events. Across the back is a letter written by Beaurepaire to her father, on 17 August, revealing that her brother Frank, Australia's champion swimmer, did not not march with the team, thus his absence in the photo.
