Brief Description
Engraved plaque "The Bidlake Memorial Prize" awarded to Hubert Opperman in 1934. Rectangular pewter plaque, set in a black wooden frame. Displayed in polished wood presentation box with engraved name plate on lid: "THE BIDLAKE MEMORIAL PRIZE/HUBERT OPPERMAN". The plaque itself features a raised image of Thomas Frederick Biddy’ Bidlake (1867-1933). The inscription below reads: " PRESENTED TO/HUBERT OPPERMAN/ FOR HIS BICYCLE ROAD RECORDS OF 24 HOURS/ LAND'S END TO JOHN O'GROATS AND 1000 MILES/ ACCOMPLISHED IN ONE RIDE . JULY. 1934" Box lined with green velvet. Two green ribbons affixed to base for lifting the plaque out. Plaque has a hinged prop at back and two metal hanging rings. A card time-line of winners of the prize from 1934-1977 is included and features an image of the plaque on the front.
