Object Detail

Brief Description
A full set of the Order of Australia Medal awarded to Betty Cuthbert in its original box. Convex golden Order of Australia Medal (full size) attached to a full-size ribbon. The obverse is the design of a single flower of wattle in the form of a disc, with radiating lines to accentuate the central circlet which represents the surrounding sea, on which is written at bottom AUSTRALIA and at top also depicts two stalks of grain, perhaps wheat. The medal is attached to the ribbon by the design of the British crown which is a part of the medal. The reverse of the medal contains a circle with the engraving "Betty / CUTHBERT". The silk ribbon is the civilian (as opposed to military) version, royal blue with a central band of scattered gold mimosa blossoms. A metal clasp is sewn to the reverse top of the ribbon. The medal is one of a four-piece insignia set which also includes a miniature medal, lapel badge and ribbon bar. The box opens from right to left and on the front has the lettering "A.M."
