Object Detail

Brief Description
A diamond shaped gold badge featuring on the obverse the coat-of-arms of Sheffield. Around the arms are four ribbon devices featuring the relief inscription, "SHEFFIELD SHIELD TROPHY 1892". Season 1892/93 was the first for this competition. On the reverse is the engraved inscription, "V.S. RANSFORD / 1907-8". Victoria, for whom Ransford was a member, won the competition in season 1907/08, after six consecutive championship wins by NSW. Ransford's wizardry with the bat was instrumental in Victoria's championship win that season.
