Object Detail

Brief Description
An envelope containing a handwritten letter to Australian athlete, Winsome Cripps, by a German fan named Waldi Rudolph, requesting she send him an autographed photo of her. Accompanying the letter is a black and white cigarette card, issued by Kosmos Cigarettes, in Germany. Card is number 86 of a series of cards commemorating the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. The image features the popular image of Cripps and Marjorie Jackson, during the notorious baton exchange at the last turn in the Women's 4x100 relay final, where Cripps' knee knocked the baton out of Jackson's hand at the change over, costing Australia the gold medal.
