Brief Description
A 24-page (unnumbered, cover exclusive) prospectus, with plain red cover, and bound with blue string. Entitled "An Invitation", this prospectus was produced by the City of Ballarat, with the assistance of many local sponsors, for presentation to the Organising Committee of the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games, Games Sites Committee, on 17 April 1950. It puts forth the proposal for the holding of all Olympic rowing and canoeing events at Lake Wendouree, Ballarat. A map of the lake, with dimensions and other features, athlete and administrative facilities, and transport details, etc... are all featured in this document. Ballarat was eventually granted the right to hold these events during the 1956 Melbourne Olympics.
