Brief Description
Framed watercolour painting that depicts Melbourne in the 19th century. Artist is unknown. Below the image and within in the mount there is a handwritten inscription which is the title of the work. It reads SKETCH OF MELBOURNE FROM SANDRIDGE ROAD. In the foreground there is a train that is travelling towards the bridge that was part of the old Port Melbourne Railway Line. The train is heading towards Flinders Street Railway Station. This view of Melbourne is taken from near an early location of the Melbourne Cricket Ground when is was situated at the area now known referred to as Southbank. The reverse side of the painting contains a handwritten sonnet inscribed in black ink. It appears to be written in German. There is also an auction house sticker on the back as well as a handwritten number inscribed with a black marker.
