Brief Description
A circular commemorative medallion presented to Australian cyclist Christopher Wheeler who represented Australia at the Berlin Olympic Games in 1936. The medal was issued by the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games Committee to all athletes and officials. Obverse features five naked male athletes - representing the five continents - each pulling ropes driving the Olympic Bell. Inscription on obverse: 'XI/OLYMPIADE/BERLIN/1936'. Reverse features the Olympic Bell contained within five concentric circles. Upon the bell is the German Eagle clasping the Olympic rings. An inscription below, in German, reads: 'ICH RUFE DIE JUGEND DER WELT' (trans. English: 'I call the Youth of the World').
