Object Detail
Brief Description
Original Robert Ingpen watercolour depicting England opening batsman, Len Hutton (1916-1990). The artist's image number - 85 - and subject's name and country are handwritten below the design, with pencilled dates '1937-1954-55'. A sheet of tracing paper, with grid lines and references, folds over the artwork which is signed and dated by the artist. The image is included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the MCG. In 79 Tests, Hutton scored 6971 runs - including 19 centuries, 33 half-centuries, and a highest score of 364 - at an average of 56.67. He captained England in 23 Tests, losing only four, and did not lose a series. In 1956, Hutton was knighted for his services to cricket.
