Object Detail
Brief Description
Original Robert Ingpen watercolour depicting Australian Rules footballer (and Test cricketer), Laurie Nash (1910-1986). The artist's image number - 64 - and subject's name and VFL club are handwritten below the design, with a pencilled date '1934'. A sheet of tracing paper, with grid lines and references, folds over the artwork which is signed and dated by the artist. The image is included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the MCG. Nash played 99 games and kicked 246 goals as a centre half-forward for the South Melbourne Football Club (1933-37, 1945). In 1934, he kicked 18 goals for Victoria against South Australia at the MCG - and later claimed that he would have finished with more if his team-mates had kicked the ball to him. Nash played two Tests (both at the MCG): he took 4/18 and 1/4 in South Africa's innings of 36 and 45 (in 1931/32); and, 4/70 and 1/34 against England (1936/37).
