Object Detail

Brief Description
Original Robert Ingpen watercolour depicting Australian Rules footballer, Ivor Phillip Scharrer Warne-Smith (1897-1960). The artist's image number - 54 - and subject's name and club are handwritten below the design, with the pencilled notation 'BROWNLOW 1926/28'. A sheet of tracing paper, with grid lines and references, folds over the artwork which is signed and dated by the artist. The image is included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the MCG. Warne-Smith played 146 games, and kicked 110 goals for the Melbourne Football Club (1919, 1925-32), and was the first player to win two Brownlow Medals (1926, 1928). He served on both Melbourne FC and Melbourne Cricket Club committees.
