Brief Description
Original Robert Ingpen watercolour depicting Australian batsman, William Harold "Bill" Ponsford (1900-1991). The artist's image number - 51 - and subject's name and country, are handwritten below the design. A sheet of tracing paper, with grid lines and references, folds over the artwork which is signed and dated by the artist. The image is included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the MCG. Some of Ponsford's best innings were for Victoria at the MCG. Scores included 429 against Tasmania (1920/21), 437 against Queensland (1927/28), and 352 out of Victoria's total of 1,107 against NSW (1926/27). In 29 Tests between 1924 and 1934, he scored 2122 runs at an average of 48.22. In 1996, Ponsford was an inaugural inductee into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame.
