Object Detail
Brief Description
Original Robert Ingpen watercolour depicting Australian leg-spin bowler, Clarrie Grimmett (1891-1980). The artist's image number - 56 - and subject's name and country, are handwritten below the design, with a pencilled date '1930'. A sheet of tracing paper, with grid lines and references, folds over the artwork which is signed and dated by the artist. The image is included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the MCG. In 37 Tests, Grimmett - nicknamed 'the Fox' and 'Scarlet' (Pimpernell - 'they seek him here; they seek him there') - captured 216 wickets at 24.21. In 1996, Grimmett was an inaugural inductee into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame.
