Object Detail
Brief Description
Robert Ingpen's original design of an image of Australian high jumper Charles Porter. The artist's image number - 102 - and subject's name and country, are handwritten below the design, with pencilled title 'OLYMPIC GAMES 1956/ HIGH JUMP SILVER' and date '23 Nov 1956'. A sheet of tracing paper, with grid lines and references, folds over the artwork which is signed and dated by the artist. The image is included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the MCG. In 1956, after a tight battle and more than 9 hours of competition, Porter won the silver medal in the high jump at the Melbourne Olympic Games at the MCG. Charles Dumas of the USA won gold.
