Object Detail
Brief Description
Robert Ingpen's original design of an image of Australian runner, Betty Cuthbert (1938-2017). The artist's original image number - 98 - and subject's name and country, are handwritten below the design, with the pencilled notation '4x100 Relay'. A sheet of tracing paper, with grid lines and references, folds over the artwork which is signed and dated by the artist. The image is included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the MCG. In 1956, Cuthbert won three gold medals - in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m Relay (with Shirley Strickland, Norma Croker, & Fleur Mellor) - at the Melbourne Olympic Games at the MCG.
