Brief Description
Robert Ingpen's original design of an image of Australian runner, Ron Clarke (1937-2015). The artist's original image number - 97 - and subject's name and country, are handwritten below the design, with the title 'Olympic Torch'. A sheet of tracing paper, with grid lines and references, folds over the artwork which is signed and dated by the artist. The image is included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the MCG. Clarke lit the cauldron at the MCG to commence the Melbourne Olympic Games in 1956. He became a champion distance runner and at one stage held every world record for 2 miles to 20 kilometres.
