Object Detail
Brief Description
Robert Ingpen's original design of an image of Australian opening batsman, William Morris "Bill" Lawry. The artist's original image number - 126 - and name of the subject and country are handwritten below the design, with a pencilled year - '68. A sheet of tracing paper, with grid lines and references, folds over the artwork which is signed and dated by the artist. The image is included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the MCG. In 67 Tests (1961-71), Lawry scored 5,234 runs - including 13 centuries - at an average of 47.15. In eight Tests at the MCG, Lawry scored four centuries and averaged 78.69.
