Object Detail

Brief Description
Robert Ingpen's original design of an image of Australian Rules footballer, Simon Madden. The artist's original image number - 151 - and subject's name and club are handwritten below the design, with the title '1985 Grand Final'. A sheet of tracing paper, with grid lines and references, folds over the artwork which has been signed and dated by the artist. The image is included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the MCG. Maddern played 378 games and kicked 575 goals for the Essendon Football Club between 1974 and 1992. He played in two Premiership teams - 1984 and 1985 - and won the Norm Smith Medal for best on the ground in the latter, from which Ingpen's image is derived.
