Robert Ingpen's original design of an image of Australian Rules footballer, Gary Ablett. The artist's original image number - 160 - and subject's name and club are handwritten below the design. A sheet of tracing paper, with grid lines and references, folds over the artwork which has been signed and dated by the artist. The image is included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the MCG. Ablett played 6 games for Hawthorn Football Club in 1982, and 242 games - kicking 1,021 goals - for Geelong FC where he a had a remarkable career between 1984 and 1996. He produced some of his best games at the Melbourne Cricket Ground: he kicked 9 goals in a losing Grand Final team in 1989; and, in 1993 he scored 14 goals 7 behinds in a home-and-away game against Essendon, the eventual Premiers. In the 1994 season he kicked 129 goals, and 122 goals in the following season.
