Object Detail

Brief Description
Robert Ingpen's original design of an image of Australian batsman, Allan Border. The artist's original image number - 159 - and subject's name and country are handwritten below the design. A sheet of tracing paper, with grid lines and references, folds over the artwork which has been signed and dated by the artist. The image is included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the Melbourne Cricket Ground. In 156 Tests between 1978/79 and 1993/94, Border scored 11,174 runs for Australia - including 27 centuries - at an average of 50.56, and took 156 catches. In 2000, Border was inducted into the Australian Hall of Fame.
