Object Detail
Brief Description
Robert Ingpen's original design of an image of New Zealand bowler/all-rounder, Richard Hadlee. The artist's original image number - 146 - and subject's name and country are handwritten below the design, with pencilled dates '80-81'. A sheet of tracing paper, with the grid references for the layout of the tapestry, folds over the artwork which has been signed and dated by the artist. The image is included in a tapestry celebrating 150 years of performances and events on the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Hadlee took 431 wickets at an average of 22.29, and made 3,124 runs at 27.16 during 86 Tests from 1972/3 to 1990. In 1990, Hadlee was knighted for his services to cricket.
