The rules we have always played by are: one coin into each compartment, all the cards are dealt, there is no dead head, each player chooses their best 5 card Poker hand, that person takes the money from Poker compartment, they play their lowest card, Aces being low (1) - doesn't have to be red but the lowest card in their hand. The cards are played in sequence until the King of that suit is played, then whoever played that King, plays their lowest of card of the opposite colour, the game continues until one player has played all their cards. All the other players pay one coin for each card they have left in their hands into the Kitty, they player who went out takes all the money from Kitty. As with Christine's comment above, the money in the compartments of K & Q Hearts & 7 8 9 (of any suit) builds up, because you have to actually get to play these cards to get the money. The deal then goes to the next person at the table. When closing down the game, we divide the money in the compartments that have built up, into the other compartments, leaving out the K & Q Hearts & 7 8 9 compartments.
