Brief Description
A formal group portrait of the two inaugural MCC Hockey Section teams - both the 1st XI and 2nd XI team members combined. All 14 men wear the red and blue Melbourne uniform, with the MCC logo at the lower right, in white, with white shorts and red socks. Photograph was taken on the 15th April 1961, the first round date of Season 1961. That afternoon, the MCC Hockey 1st XI played, and defeated, Elsternwick H.C. 3-0, and, the MCC Hockey 2nd XI played, and defeated, Melbourne University H.C. 5-0. The MCC Hockey Section was formed in 1960, with 1961 being their first year of competition. A detached paper label features the game results, as well as the list of players present in the photograph. It is titled, "ORIGINAL M.C.C. PLAYERS / Sat. April 15 1961 / ...".
