Brief Description
Large square piece of silk, printed with a red background and cream border, with a central image of a cricket match and four nineteenth-century cricketers at each corner(Wm Lillywhite, Thos Box, Fuller Pilch and Jass Bobbett). The central image is set within an octagonal shape, and shows a cricket match being played on an open field with buildings in the background and a pavilion with spectators. The players wear trousers, jackets and top hats, typically mid-nineteenth-century cricket dress. In smaller octagons at each corner are full-length portrait images of cricketers Thomas Box, James Cobbett, Fuller Pilch and Frederick Lillywhite snr, which can be used to date the item to around the 1840s.
