Brief Description
Rectangular print of a drawing titled, "THE LION OFFERS ONE MORE CHANCE / SYDNEY 17 FEB 1883". Features a lion, representing England, walking towards a homeward-bound ship with the Ashes urn and a travelling trunk nearby. The lion is turning to look back at the kangaroos, representing Australia, from whom England had just won the Ashes. These humorous drawings by M.C.B. Massie accompanied the publication of RD Beeston's "St. Ivo and the Ashes - A Correct True and Particular History of the Hon. Ivo Bligh's Campaign in Australia. 1882-83". The book was published at the conclusion of the 1882/83 tour by the English team led by the Hon. Ivo Bligh, which was the only contemporary book on this tour.
