Brief Description
Oil painting of the 1896 VFA play off between South Melbourne and Collingwood. This match is also referred to as the 1896 Grand Final. The game was played on Saturday October 3 at the East Melbourne Cricket Ground before 12,000 spectators. Most players are wearing hats, and in the foreground is a Collingwood player reaching for a mark in front of the goals. The artist's initials, "CJ" are in the bottom left-hand corner, and the frame is wood with rubbed back gilt.
