Brief Description
Photograph features image of the first phase of demolition of the Concrete Stand at the MCG, to make way for the Western (Ponsford) Stand. Handwritten inscription across base reads: 'Above Members Stand now pulled down Jan 1964'. Inscription written in retrospect, regarding the Grey Smith Stand, which, although still standing in the photo, was also pulled down to make way for the Western Stand. A 'Sun' newspaper clipping from May 1967 is glued to the back of the photo, featuring an image of the construction of the Western Stand.
