Object Detail

Brief Description
Narrow, varnished, spliced miniature cricket bat with black twine around handle. Black printing on face features from top to bottom: two upside-down triangular emblems reading, "GRADIDGE / LIMITED" and "Imperial Division", above a picture of a crown; 'De Luxe / Super / SELECTED ENGLISH WILLOW / GRADIDGE' , and is followed by 18 facsimile signatures. On the back is an inscription which seems to have been re-written over in black fountain pen, reading: 'To / Dave / Friedmann / With / Best Wishes / from / Bert Oldfield / Sydney / March 1939.' At the base of the splice is printed 'Made in Australia'. The bat was produced to commemorate the 1936-37 English (Marylebone Cricket Club) tour of Australia.
