Brief Description
Square-rectangular, portrait-format card featuring on front a hand-coloured head- and-shoulders photograph of Australian Rules Football player Athol Webb. Green background; thick white border. Webb is shown wearing the red and navy Melbourne Football Club guernsey of the day, and his names is printed in blue inside a white square at bottom: "ATHOL WEBB (Melbourne)", above the manufacturer's name and series title which appears from either side on a white scroll: "ATLANTIC / PICTURE/ PAGEANT". Reverse features black text inside a decorative border, at the top of which is the card number 52, the series title: "VICTORIAN LEAGUE STARS: SERIES OF 128", and below which is a short sporting biography of the player. ATLANTIC advertisement at the bottom. This card is one of a series of 128 numbered cards issued when purchasing items from the Atlantic Petrol Stations throughout Victoria in 1958. The cards show a mixture of both training action shots and player portraits, 12 cards per team which competed in the 1957 VFL finals series and 10 for all the other teams.
