Brief Description
'Worlds Records Holder' plaque awarded by the International Amateur Athletic Federation to each of the members of the world-record-breaking, relay team at the British Empire & Commonwealth v USA International Athletics Meeting, held in Sydney on 5 Dec 1956. The plaque is bronze, inscription on obverse reads: " IAAF/ INTERNATIONAL/ AMATEUR ATHLETIC/ FEDERATION", below an image of a winged lady standing on a globe. The reverse reads "INTERNATIONAL/ AMATEUR ATHLETIC/ FEDERATION/ TO/[engraved & highlighted in white enamel] AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL TEAM/ (S.B. DE LA HUNTY,/ N. CROKER,/ F. MELLOR,/ B. CUTHBERT)/ WORLDS RECORDS HOLDER/ 4X 110 YARDS/ RELAY/ 45.6 S./ 5.12.1956/ SYDNEY, N.S.W. AUSTRALIA". This is very similar to 2 other plaques owned by Shirley Strickland, identical in all but the times (this one reads '45.6 s' while the others read '44.9 s' and '44.5 s') and while the others are inscribed '4 x 100 metres relay...Melbourne, Australia', this has written '4 x 110 yards...Sydney, N.S.W. Australia'.
